Hey everyone,
I’ve hit a wall with activating Windows 10 after upgrading my PC hardware (new motherboard + CPU). Here’s the breakdown:
Previous Setup:
OEM-activated Windows 10 Pro (pre-installed, linked to Microsoft account).
Upgraded from Windows 8.1 years ago (had a digital license).
Current Issue:
Fresh Windows 10 install on new hardware.
Error on activation: "We can’t find a digital license for this device" (Error code: 0x803F7001).
Troubleshooting tried:
slmgr /ato → Error 0xC004F0... moreHey everyone,

slmgr /ato → Error 0xC004F012.
Microsoft Account reassociation – no licenses shown.
Retail key entry (just in case) – "not valid for this edition".
Question:
Is the OEM license truly dead after mobo replacement, or is there a way to force the digital entitlement transfer?
If not, will a retail Pro key work without a full reinstall (to keep current setup)?
Bonus rant: Why does Microsoft’s activation system feel like deciphering BitLocker without a recovery key? 😅
Thanks in advance for any wizardry!
