Ice skating is the perfect activity to warm up before exploring the bustling Christmas markets, hopping on thrilling funfair rides and tucking into seasonal food.
Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink
Drop by Hampton Court Palace for a quick spin on the ice or make a day of it after exploring the former home of King Henry VIII where you will find the historic chocolate kitchen (pre-book your visit in advance). The Hampton Court Palace Ice Rink is set against the palace's spectacular Tudor facade, which lights up with a striking kaleidoscope of colours as darkness falls. After skating, stop by the Ice Café and Bar and indulge in a delicious selection of seasonal refreshments.

Battersea Power Station Glide Ice Rink
London's first and only riverside ice rink returns for another festive season at the iconic Battersea Power Station with a variety activities including vintage fairground rides. A magnificent open-air rink, Glide is made up of three interconnected ice rinks – welcoming skaters of all abilities – with a spectacular 30-foot high Christmas tree as the centrepiece for an extra festive touch. Off the ice, skaters can enjoy live entertainment and fun photo booths. Afterwards, explore Battersea Power Station and its wide range of shops and restaurants, or for the more adventurous, head up to Lift 109 for a 360-degree view.

The Ice Rink at Westfield London
At the centre of one of Europe's largest shopping centres, enjoy the festive season at Westfield London. After your shopping spree, strap on some skates and join your friends on one of the capital's largest ice rinks, complete with a spectacular 65-foot Christmas tree at its centre.

Ice Rink Canary Wharf
Enjoy a magical ice skating experience under sparkling lights at Ice Rink Canary Wharf. Flanked by some of London’s tallest skyscrapers, the rink stays open until the end of February, far longer than most other winter London ice rinks. Official launch
Today we celebrate an important contribution to the disability sector, with the publication of Disability Practice: Safeguarding Quality Service Delivery.
Let me begin by congratulating the co-editors, Professor Christine Bigby and Alan Hough, and the authors of each chapter for your achievement. I am sure your work will be a key resource for researchers, students and practitioners in the field of disability practice.
It was an honour to contribute the Foreword for this book and I thank Christine and Alan for extending the invitation.
Background to the Foreword
I was approached by Alan and Chris to write the Foreword around April last year.
At the time, I was just over a year into my role as NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commissioner.
We’d not long launched our first Strategic Plan internally, where we’d firmly stated our commitment to:
the rights of people with disability
high quality supports and services, and
greater choice for consumers.
So, it was very motivating when I read an early draft of Disability Practice, as I’ll call it, and saw the importance it also placed on understanding the quality of life, rights and lived experience of people with disability.
In the Foreword, I suggest that focusing on quality encourages us to focus on the best possible outcomes when we design and deliver disability supports and services – rather than guarding against the worst.
