Piper Ranch
We welcome everyone to get a taste of the life on our farm that we value so much- individuals, couples, families, and other group travelers. We can put you to work if you’d like, but alternatively we have 1 campsites across our property that are available for rent. The Highland Hideaway and Painted Turtle Pond campsites are located on our cattle ranch in North Buckfield, and the River’s Retreat and Beech Bluff campsites are located at our riverside farmland in the center of Buckfield.
Our land abuts and flows into the Nezinscot River, which runs through the heart of our community. Nezinscot is an Abenaki word, which means “to decend upon,” or as many others interpret it, “a place to gather.” Much like the river they face, we find these spaces to be a great place to gather with friends, family, or even just you and your own thoughts.
It started in 1988 when Richard & Lynn Piper decided to act on the vision they created of their family's future; one rooted in their love for the natural world and desire to improve the health of their community. After their children moved out and started their own families, the Pipers bought some acreage in the small village of Buckfield, Maine.
In this quiet valley they would raise Highland Cattle, llamas, pigs, goats, chickens, and more- including their grandchildren. It is Richard and Lynn’s goal to pass on their dedication to healthy land and food to their grandchildren, community, and generations to come.
