Rachel Williams, Certified CPMT
“A Certified Pediatric Massage Therapist is a massage therapist or other health care professional who has received specific advanced training to enhance their skills in providing pediatric massage therapy. Through their advanced training, a CPMT has learned about providing massage therapy for children with special health care needs, children who are hospitalized or have been diagnosed with a terminal illness in hospice care.
A CPMT has knowledge of various massage techniques for working with children with varied physical, developmental, emotional and mental challenges and has practiced these skills during hands-on in class sessions. A CPMT has learned the many benefits and importance of individualized adaptation, including cultural considerations, for using massage therapy with children.
During their training, a CPMT has learned methods of respectful approach, meeting children at their level and respect for their personal space. A CPMT has reviewed respectful, mindful considerations, and unique communication skills to expand interaction and how to engage children during massage sessions.
Due to the sensitive nature of providing massage therapy for children in healthcare settings, CPMTs have been taught the great importance of professional boundaries, safety guidelines, infection control and patient privacy. “
