What is HealthSky SCT Method?
HealthSky Sieve Sedimentation Cytologic Technology (SCT) is a unique and patented cytology sample preparation technology developed by HealthSky. After the specimen is transferred to the chamber, obscuring factors such as blood and mucus are filtered out by the sieve, the inflammatory cells and other interferents are separated by density sedimentation, the relevant diagnostic cells are enriched on the slides which are specially treated. The prepared slides are featured with clean background, evenly distributed monolayer cells, and better cellular morphology.
FAQS OF LIQUID-BASED CYTOLOGY MACHINE
Q
What is a Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) machine?
An LBC machine is a medical device used to prepare samples for cytological examination. It processes cells collected from various body sites (e.g., cervix, lungs) and suspends them in a liquid medium, which is then used to create a thin, uniform layer of cells on a microscope slide for analysis.
Q
What types of samples can be processed using an LBC machine?
Liquid-based cytology (LBC) is a versatile technique that can be used to process a variety of specimen types for cytological examination, include gynecological (gyn) and non-gynecological (non-gyn) specimen.
Q
How long does it take to process a sample using an LBC machine?
Processing a sample using a liquid-based cytology (LBC) machine typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the specific system and workflow used.
Q
What are the advantages of using LBC over conventional cytology?
Liquid-based cytology (LBC) offers several advantages over conventional cytology, including improved sample quality with cleaner and more evenly distributed cells, higher detection rates for abnormalities, and fewer unsatisfactory samples. It also allows for additional molecular testing, such as HPV, on the same sample, improves workflow efficiency with automated processing, and provides better cell preservation. These benefits lead to enhanced diagnostic accuracy and potential cost savings by reducing the need for repeat tests.

LIQUID-BASED CYTOLOGY TECHNIQUE
Liquid-Based Cytology (LBC) technique used in the field of cytopathology for the examination of cells from various body sites, most commonly the cervix. This method has largely replaced the conventional Pap smear due to its enhanced accuracy and diagnostic capabilities. In LBC, cells are collected from the cervix using a brush or spatula, similar to the traditional Pap smear. However, instead of smearing the cells directly onto a microscope slide, they are rinsed into a vial containing a preservative liquid.
The vial is sent to a lab where the sample is processed by filtering and centrifuging to concentrate the cells, which are then spread onto a slide. This reduces obscuring materials like blood, mucus, and inflammatory cells, resulting in cleaner slides with clearer cellular morphology.
LBC offers higher sensitivity and specificity in detecting precancerous lesions and cervical cancer. It also allows for additional tests, such as HPV testing, from the same sample, and can be used for non-gynecological samples like urine, sputum, and fine-needle aspirates, making it a versatile diagnostic tool.
Overall, Liquid-Based Cytology represents a significant advancement in the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer and other diseases, offering improved sample quality, better diagnostic accuracy, and the ability to perform multiple tests from a single specimen.
Liquid-Based Cytology Technique
ADVANTAGES OF LIQUID-BASED CYTOLOGY METHODS OVER TRADITIONAL METHODS
Enhanced Sample Quality
LBC ensures more uniform cell distribution on slides and removes excess blood and mucus, resulting in a cleaner background and easier observation.
Improved Diagnostic Accuracy
LBC offers higher sensitivity and specificity, leading to more accurate identification of cellular abnormalities and better preservation of cellular morphology.
Increased Efficiency and Convenience
Many LBC systems are automated, reducing manual handling and the risk of human error. Additionally, a single sample can be used for multiple tests, saving time and resources.
Optimized Laboratory Workflow
The automation and standardization in LBC significantly reduce sample preparation and analysis time, speeding up diagnostic results and ensuring consistency and reliability across laboratories.
