The S&P 500 was 0.3% lower in afternoon trading after setting an all-time high for the 31st time this year before Wednesday’s holiday. There were slightly more stocks rising than falling in the index. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 253 points, or 0.7%, as of 1:51 p.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq fell 0.9%.
Nvidia gave up an early gain and fell 3.4%, weighing down the broader market. The semiconductor company supplanted Microsoft on Tuesday as the most valuable company on Wall Street with a total market value of more than $3.3 trillion.
