Wipro, a prominent technology services and consulting firm, has significantly strengthened its strategic partnership with the John Lewis Partnership (JLP), the company behind some of the United Kingdom's most iconic retail brands, including department stores and supermarkets. This deepened collaboration is aimed at transforming and modernizing JLP's IT infrastructure by leveraging Wipro's technological expertise and its expanded alliance with Google Cloud.
The new agreement is an extension of a partnership originally established in 2020, which focused on enhancing JLP's infrastructure services to better align with the company’s evolving business strategy. This initial collaboration was designed to support JLP in responding more swiftly to the increasingly digital expectations of its customers. The latest agreement seeks to build on this foundation by enabling JLP to future-proof its operations, driving sustainable growth amid a rapidly shifting IT landscape.
Under the terms of the new agreement, Wipro will utilize its FullStride Cloud services, a suite of offerings developed in collaboration with Google Cloud, to extend JLP’s existing cloud infrastructure, network, and end-user services for an additional four years. A key component of this collaboration will be the transformation of JLP’s X86 platform to the cloud, a move expected to bring greater agility to the company’s operations, optimize operating costs, and streamline various business processes. By unlocking new business value and scoping out innovative solutions, Wipro aims to propel JLP’s retail technology offerings and modernize its store operations.
The partnership comes at a critical time, as artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly drives cloud investment decisions across industries. According to Wipro FullStride Cloud’s study, "The Pulse of Cloud: Quarterly Report July 2024," 54% of surveyed organizations identified AI as a key driver behind their cloud investments. This statistic underscores the importance of cloud scalability and processing power in supporting the large volumes of reference data required by AI technologies. Consequently, the collaboration between Wipro, JLP, and Google Cloud is not only timely but also essential in positioning JLP for continued success in an AI-driven future.
Omkar Nisal, UKI Managing Director of Wipro Limited, expressed enthusiasm for the expanded partnership, noting Wipro’s deep understanding of JLP’s needs developed over years of close collaboration. Nisal emphasized that Wipro’s comprehensive expertise, particularly through its FullStride Cloud services, will be instrumental in helping JLP achieve its business ambitions through a bespoke modernization program.
David Hunn, Chief Information Officer of John Lewis Partnership, also commented on the partnership, highlighting the shared values of sustainable growth between the two companies. Hunn expressed confidence in Wipro’s ability to support JLP’s modernization efforts, given the firm’s proven track record in digital transformation and thorough understanding of JLP’s business needs.
The strategic collaboration between Wipro and JLP is likely to serve as an inspiration for other companies seeking to modernize their IT infrastructure and cloud environments. As AI continues to shape the future of business operations, partnerships like this one not only demonstrate the importance of staying ahead in the digital race but also position Wipro to expand its customer base and influence across industries. With a focus on innovation, agility, and sustainable growth, Wipro and JLP are setting a benchmark for successful digital transformation in the retail sector.
