Human AB serum, collected from human male AB plasma, is a vital cell culture supplement for some human cell lines, providing the necessary growth factors and nutrients. Amerigo Scientific offers human AB serum collected from healthy volunteer male donors of the AB serotype at EU registered facilities. Each lot of human serum type AB typically derives from 200-250 pre-screened donors. The material is CE marked and ANSM approved IVDMD.
Off-clot serum is collected from blood that is allowed to coagulate naturally after collection, in the absence of any anticoagulant.

Human Serum AB, male only - Off clot - EU - Standard Grade | by heating to 56 °C for 30 minutes to inactivate various components in the serum | 100 mL |
Applications
Human AB serum is an ideal supplement for human derived cell lines compared with other animal sera such as fetal bovine serum (FBS). It is the serum of choice when working with immune cells like lymphocytes and macrophages. In addition, the use of human serum may be necessary in order to meet regulatory requirements on the use of animal derived material. Human AB serum can be used for:
- the expansion of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) from adipose tissue or human bone marrow
- ex vivo expansion of natural killer (NK) cells from peripheral blood in hematopoietic stem cell expansion medium
- upgrading pretransplant human islet culture technology
- tissue engineering
- antibody-based human leucocyte antigen (HLA) tissue-typing
- standardized limbal epithelial stem cell graft generation and transplantation
- tissue culture of human cell lines
- serological typing
- immunohistochemical staining procedures as a blocking agent
Benefits
Compared with the use of fetal bovine serum (FBS) or other animal-derived components, the use of human AB serum carries no risk of transmission of xenoinfectious pathogens and immunization.
Human AB serum lacks antibodies against the A and B antigens on red blood cells and is therefore less immunoreactive than serums of other blood types. Human AB is proven to grow many human cell lines faster at a lower serum ratio than mixed blood group serum.
