We know from extensive research that social support leads to better health and a longer life, hearing others’ stories can give new perspective on our own experiences, receiving validation from others can help improve self-esteem, and the support of an emotionally safe community is the primary catalyst for healing trauma and addictions. The undeniable truth is that we all need connection and community to heal and grow. Relational traumas require relational repairs. And shame dies when stories are told in safe places.
