My name is Olivia Gong. I was born in a small village in China, into a highly dysfunctional family where verbal and physical abuse were constant. From as early as I can remember, I was made to feel unworthy by the very people I longed to love and be loved by. At 11, I was bullied and assaulted, sending me into even deeper despair.
Like many trauma survivors, I did everything I could to suppress and escape my pain. I drank, partied, smoked, and surrounded myself with people at all times—because if I was alone, the trauma would speak, and I didn’t want to hear what it had to say. At times, my pain exploded outward in destructive expressions, lashing out, screaming at strangers, and even coming close to physical fights.
Believing success and wealth would finally bring happiness, I pushed myself relentlessly. By God’s grace, I went from a broke girl in China to Vice President of a NASDAQ-listed company in California, earning over half a million dollars a year.
