Doris A. Laing (”Dorie&rdquo is a Licensed Massage Therapist, originally trained at the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, New York (1996). She was certified by The Vodder School of North America as a Lymphedema Therapist (1998).
In order to become Vodder certified, a therapist must receive a minimum of 160 hours of instruction. To maintain her certification, she must complete the required Recertification Course every two years. This recertification ensures high standards and knowledge of the latest research and techniques. She is also certified by LANA (Lymphatic Association of North America), an organization that was established to ensure that lymphatic therapists achieve and maintain an acceptable level of competency.
Dorie is originally from Upstate New York, where she initially worked in conjunction with Physical Therapists providing neuromuscular, connective tissue and cranial-sacral therapy modalities as part of the patient’s Physical Therapy treatment program. In 1998 she started a Lymphedema Treatment Program at the Rehabilitation Services Department at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, NY. She introduced and implemented this treatment program to the medical community and surrounding area with goals to educate, treat and support those suffering from lymphedema (1998-2003).
Dorie moved to North Carolina in 2003, where she worked at a lymphedema clinic in Chapel Hill providing lymphedema treatment and management until December 2008.
Dorie continues to update, complete recertification and learn new massage techniques on an on-going basis. She believes that continuing education is an important part of the development of new techniques as well as strengthening current modalities and skills.
Dorie is an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association, board licensed in North Carolina and Board Certified through NCBTMB.
Dorie’s other interests include her three adult children, family, her dogs and participating in her outdoor activities including, cycling & skiing with her husband Scott.
