Renee Calvert, DVM
From childhood, Dr. Renee Calvert knew exactly what she was meant to do in life. In third grade she decided to become a veterinarian, and she hasn't slowed down or looked back since then. Her early love of animals became a career that allows her to contribute to their wellness, aid in their healing, relieve their suffering, and educate their owners, all while continually learning, developing her skills, and challenging herself.
She grew up near Allentown, PA, where she got her start raising Seeing Eye puppies. After graduating from Penn State and completing vet school at Purdue, she worked at animal hospitals in Fairmont, WV and Somerset, PA. In 2000, she moved back to State College and started her own practice, Mountain MobileVet. By 2008, she was ready for a change, so she joined the staff of Centre Animal Hospital in 2009. She partnered with Dr. Smart to purchase the hospital from its founder, Dr. Michelotti in 2017. Together they are taking the practice forward into its fourth decade of service to the Centre Region.
Dr. Calvert enjoys almost everything about veterinary medicine, but her particular passion is for tackling the complicated medical cases that defy easy answers. The satisfaction of solving a mystery and helping a sick animal is a constant reaffirmation of her decision to become a vet. She also has a special interest in dentistry.
Dr. Calvert lives near State College with her husband Jeff. As an avid ultra runner, she recharges by roaming the rocky trails of central PA with her pit bull partner, Scotia. She loves to travel, especially for adventure runs and longer races, and to visit her son in Los Angeles.
