Just the mention of our beloved region evokes thoughts of quaint villages, beautiful mountains, pristine streams and lakes, the gorgeous rocky coast, and history. Our history as a nation has its roots deeply intertwined amongst the granite ledges of this land and the people who sacrificed their lives to settle here. Though the motivations to leave a homeland and establish the foundation of a new society are as varied as the individuals involved, any unbiased overview of the accounts of our forbears reveals a common theme – the desire to obey God and to establish family. This desire provided for a mighty nation to be built and for the blessing enjoyed by her inhabitants even to this day. Sadly, many of New England’s current citizens no longer appreciate or are aware of the spiritual benefits and responsibilities passed on by our fathers to this generation. Ignorance does not negate the benefits and certainly not the responsibility of our heritage. In establishing The Rock of Greater Burlington, Vermont, back in 1997, I was cognizant of the leading of the Spirit of God and the privilege that it is to walk in the footsteps of many pioneers. With the backing of F. Nolan Ball, my spiritual father, my wife Lisa, and our then sixteen month old son and I moved to this region, started a church, and began to proclaim the Kingdom of God as a now and demonstrable reality.
