Thanks to his newly acquired education, Depp got a role in Oliver Stone's war drama Chet. The director cast Depp in the supporting role of Private Lerner. Unfortunately, almost all of Depp's scenes were cut in the final cut. Still, in 1987, Platoon received eight Oscar nominations.
Depp then successfully starred in the teen drama 21 Jump Street, where he played one of the police officers investigating crimes at a high school. Johnny became the heart of many adoring young fans, which he found somewhat upsetting.
