German urban air mobility pioneer, Volocopter, successfully concluded a multi-day flight test campaign with a crewed 2X aircraft in Osaka and Amagasaki, Japan, from December 7 to 13. This campaign marked the initial steps of local flight testing in preparation for the 2025 World Exposition, Osaka Kansai EXPO. The purpose included acclimating the crew, testing communication tools, and refining flight procedures.
Volocopter is committed to showcasing its VoloCity commercial air taxi at the EXPO. The flight tests aimed to simulate conditions expected during the EXPO and increase public awareness of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Japan. Volocopter, in partnership with Sumitomo Corporation, engaged local authorities for a smooth transition from testing to operational use during the 2025 EXPO. The company's efforts in Japan since 2018 highlight its commitment to fostering a safe and sustainable urban air mobility ecosystem.
